The traditional weaving (back-strap/upright loom) of the fabric with plaid, checked or striped patterns which make use of a wide range of complex techniques, including supplementary weft and tapestry, creating a warp of contrasting color that interplay  within the plain-weave structure exemplifying and symbolic of the Maguindanaon culture. The woven cloth is locally called an “Inaul” or the “Maguindanaon Malong” referred to as a tubular garment that wraps around the body this comes in varying multitudes of refined color combinations. The most important are the plaids that come in symmetry and balance that the weaver creates in the weft which gives the “Malong” its defining character.

This hand-woven fabric/textile is traded and is worn by contemporary women in predominantly Muslim communities as well the royalties and other people from many walks of life in their various social functions. They are worn to celebrate important events. Every time visitors, foreigners/tourists every time they see the malong/fabric could hardly help but buy them in different designs and hues, expressing their special appreciation for artisan products.

The malong/fabric because of its uniqueness and peculiarity; the ideas and values attached to it, which are woven into the fabric of the Mindanao societies...can cater to several needs/uses other than its traditional primary function. It can be used as an accent to a novelty item, for furniture and fixtures, for gowns, bags, slippers and many other gift items.

For about almost a year to date, the business which is located at Poblacion Dalumangcob, Sultan Kudarat, (Maguindanao) Shariff Kabunsuan is ably managed and operated by Jehan F. Baraguir.

In the ensuing years, she intends to expand the business by setting-up her own weaving center to harness the skills, talents and abilities of the Muslim women and lads in the locality. The business could make them productive, providing them opportunity to improve their quality of life. More so, she would like to highlight the revival of the Maguindanaon Culture for arts and crafts to be preserved, representing a heritage of the past.
