The 'Ginis' Weaver |
The traditional weaving (back-strap/upright loom) of the fabric with plaid, checked or striped patterns which make use of a wide range of complex techniques, including supplementary weft and tapestry, creating a warp of contrasting color that interplay within the plain-weave structure exemplifying and symbolic of the Maguindanaon culture. The woven cloth is locally called an “Inaul” or the “Maguindanaon Malong” referred to as a tubular garment that wraps around the body this comes in varying multitudes of refined color combinations. The most important are the plaids that come in symmetry and balance that the weaver creates in the weft which gives the “Malong” its defining character.
